Several Hooters of Weston Employees made a special delivery of books and meals to Holtz Children’s Hospital on Monday, June 6. As part of South Florida Hooters Hootie’s Lending Library initiative the restaurant partners with local organizations to provide books for kids to enjoy.  Hooters Girls from the Weston restaurant location including Kristine Mora, Michelle Scott and Gracie Williams delivered additional books to restock the rolling library for the children during their time at the hospital.  The group also delivered meals consisting of boneless wings, salad and desserts with notes of thanks to show their appreciation for the hospital staff.

“As a former educator, I can confidently say that I fully understand the role a book can play in a child’s life. Hooters’ partnership with Holtz Children’s Hospital and the Hootie’s Lending Library has given me the opportunity to help make a lasting impact with every page turned. It’s a privilege to wear the orange shorts but, it’s an honor to wear the shorts that give back,” said Kristine Mora from Hooters of Weston.

“Being involved in the Holtz Children’s Hospital promotion is special to me because I get the chance to give back to the community. It also gives me the opportunity to build connections and relationships with new people. And a huge thank you to Holtz Children’s Hospital and Hooters for these great experiences,” said Michelle Scott from Hooters of Weston.

“I love the opportunity Hooters gives me to give these kids a little bit of sunshine.  I have always wanted to give back to the hospitals and Hooters has opened up the doors for me, said Gracie Williams from Hooters of Weston.

Nineteen Hooters Girls from Florida, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island distributed coloring books, crayons, sunglasses and toiletries to 90 children at Gateway Christian Academy in Bimini. The Hooters Girls enjoyed spending time with the kids during their visit to Bimini for their 2023 Hooters Calendar shoots.

The 11 Hooters Girls from Florida who participated in the school visit are from the Fort Myers Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Hialeah, Sarasota and Fort Myers Hooters locations.  Grace Burchett (Fort Myers Beach), Alexis Costello (Fort Myers Beach), Anjolie Santana (Fort Myers Beach), Hana Joy (Fort Myers Beach), Courtney Sullivan (Fort Lauderdale), Jenise Lebron (Fort Lauderdale), Auno Ferro (Boca Raton), Madison Novo (Hialeah), Jessica Dowling (Fort Lauderdale), Sloan Miavitz (Sarasota) and Tara Archer (Fort Myers) enjoyed the opportunity to put smiles on the children’s faces.

“The experience of going to the school was absolutely breathtaking, a feeling like no other.  I automatically felt unconditional love from all the kids running everywhere and hugging us. It was more of a sharing of love moment rather than giving donations. It meant more to me to form connections with them, I immediately felt like family,” said Sarasota Hooters Girl Sloan Miavitz.  Miavitz will be representing Sarasota Hooters in the Miss Hooters International Pageant in June.

“It was one of the best days of my life. I’ve never traveled outside of the country. The kids had smiles from ear to ear. Instead of them rushing to look at what goodies we had brought them, they just wanted to know about us. I’m a kid at heart so immediately I felt in my element. We took selfies, did cartwheels and shared so many funny jokes. I told them that I would be representing Miami in the Hooters International Pageant, which was followed by them asking me if I knew any of the Miami Heat players. This was absolutely life changing and I give the biggest thanks to Hooters for providing me with endless opportunities like this,” said Hialeah Hooters Girl Madison Novo. Novo will be representing Hialeah Hooters in the Miss Hooters International Pageant in June.

“Visiting the elementary school in Bimini was hands down my favorite part of the trip this year. Meeting the kids was such a special and memorable experience. We are fortunate that our company presents us with opportunities to give back, both in our local communities and internationally. I am so proud to be a part of LTP,” said Fort Myers Beach Hooters Girl Grace Burchett.

“We are thankful for the opportunity to visit and provide toiletries and activities for all of the children to enjoy this summer.  We visit Bimini annually as part of our calendar shoot and giving back to the community including schools and children is important to us. It is always a highlight and tradition during our trip to Bimini,” said LTP Management Director of Marketing Kristi Quarles.

(South Florida) Nine Hooters Girls from South Florida and around the country participated in the Hooters Calendar Launch that kicked off on October 1st.  As part of the festivities South Florida Hooters presented over $68,000 in donations to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Miami Cancer Institute and Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida.

The group of nine calendar girls including 2022 Calendar Cover Girl and 2021 Miss Hooters International Gianna Tulio (Boca Raton), Centerfold Deeanna Krakowski (Weston) and Miss March Sloan Miavitz (Sarasota) delivered meals prepared by Hooters of Pembroke Pines to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital on October 1.  In addition to the meals for the children and their families, South Florida Hooters presented a $5,000 donation to be used for a STEM Lab in the classroom at the hospital.  The group also provided arts and crafts and additional gifts for the patients during their visit.

“As one of our most loyal partners we thank our local Hooters Restaurants and their staff for their ongoing support of the children and families cared for at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.  They have supported us for many years in so many ways.  Not only have they been generous with monetary donations, they routinely donate meals for our families, volunteer at our fundraising events and are always happy to do arts and crafts with our patients when able. We appreciate their ongoing support and are very thankful to be a recipient of their generosity,” said Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Director of Annual Giving Jackie Johnstone.

That evening, during the 2022 Hooters Calendar Launch at the Hooters of Weston, South Florida Hooters presented a donation of $48,000 to Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health from their 2020 Kelly Jo Dowd fundraising efforts. $1 of every Hooters Calendar sold supports the Kelly Jo Dowd Breast Cancer Research Fund benefiting the V Foundation for Cancer Research as part of Hooters #GiveAHoot fundraising efforts.  The 2021 Give A Hoot campaign honors the late Kelly Jo Dowd, an original Hooters Girl, the 1995 Hooters Calendar Cover Girl and Hooters first female General Manager in Palm Harbor. Dowd succumbed to breast cancer in 2007.

"Our research aims to improve the outcomes of underserved women who are diagnosed with early stage breast cancer by decreasing the overall treatment time, providing treatment at no cost to the patients, ensuring high quality evidence based care, and involving patient navigators to enhance the patient experience. The support of the V foundation and Hooters is instrumental in our mission as it directly funds our work to better understand and address the health disparities that disproportionately affect Hispanic and black women in South Florida,” said Jessika A. Contreras, MD, Miami Cancer Institute.

Hooters has raised more than $7.2 million over time to support the fight against breast cancer, much of it through the Kelly Jo Dowd Breast Cancer Research Fund benefiting the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The donations are collected nationwide with grants honoring Kelly Jo to further her mission to educate all women, especially her extended family consisting of some 300,000 current and former Hooters Girls, about the importance of early detection and prevention.

During the event, South Florida Hooters also presented a donation of $15,000 to the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida.  South Florida Hooters locations partnered with the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida to help with their annual cookie sale fundraising efforts.  South Florida Hooters matched every box sold at the restaurants cookie booths in 2021.  “Our experience partnering with Hooters during the 2021 Cookie Sale Program activity was incredibly positive! Local Girl Scout troops and their families had the opportunity to host Cookie Booths at a variety of locations in January and February. The Hooters staff was warm and welcoming and restaurant diners generously supported cookie sales,” said Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida Chief Operating Officer Lori Sullivan. South Florida Hooters also presented a donation this year for $15,000 to the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida.
